Split Airport
The closet airport to Hvar Island is Split Airport. There are flights everyday to Split from the end of March to the end of October. Split Airport is well connected across Europe and is a popular European destination. In terms of which airlines and airports from the UK and Ireland there are the following - All London airports (BA, Easyjet, Wizz and Jet2), Bristol (Easyjet), Manchester (Easyjet and Jet2), Birmingham (Jet2), Edinburgh (Jet2) and Dublin (Ryanair, Aer Lingus and Croatian Airlines). It's thirty five minutes in a taxi or car and forty five minutes on the Bus to Split Ferry Port.
Taxi's are available directly outside the terminal and they charge around 40-45 euros, you can hire cars from the airport and the Bus which is directly outside the terminal is 10 euros.
Zadar Airport
The second closest airport is Zadar Airport. Again there are flights everyday and the main airliner is Ryanair. They fly from Newcastle, Bouremouth, Cork, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Manchester, Liverpool and London Stansted. Zadar Airport is one hour and forty minutes from Split Ferry Port.
Getting on the Island
Hvar is a small island that is accessed either by the large catamarans (400 passengers) 20-25 euro pp or the ferries which carry cars, lorries and passengers 8-10 euro pp. These are frequent on the the adriatic sea and during holiday season the sea is very calm. Vrbanj Village
Orange Tree Hvar is nestled into 14th Century Vrbanj Village, which is in the heart of Hvar Island. The local general shop and coffee bar is a 20 second walk from the villa. The local Konoba restaurant and pizzeria is a one minute walk. There is a large wine producer in the village which also has a wine tasting center as well smaller producers offering bespoke wine tasting packages. The village sits on the edge of a hill overlooking Stari Grad and Vrboska and this was where locals would hide from pirates in the 14th and 15th century. There is bus stop one minute walk away which can take you around the island. The nearest beach is Vrboska a 10 minute drive or 30 minutes walk and the closest supermarket is a 10 minute drive.
